SOCIAL
CONTRIBUTION
In
April 2003, Hong Kong's leading English newspaper, The South China Morning Post
(SCMP) launched Project Shield - a city-wide campaign to provide every doctor,
nurse and medical worker in Hong Kong hospitals dealing with SARS with the
protective suits necessary to guard them against infection. Businesses and
the community rallied around this urgent request for donations.
In view
of this urgent matter, NEC Technologies Hong Kong Limited (NTH) has donated
HK$25,000 to this project, which equated to the purchase of 2,500 suits for SARS
healthcare workers.
On 28th May 2003, SCMP reported that totalling
HK$21 million had been placed through the Hospital Authority to buy 776,000
disposable fluid-resistant gowns, 140,000 eye-shield frames, 260,000 eye-shield
lenses, 964,000 face shields, 15,000 pairs of goggles and 500,000 surgical
masks. |
